November the 20th, the vice president of Peking University, professor and the dean of Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research Tiangang academician came to Shenzhen Middle School and delivered a lecture named "Math is Interesting."
Professor Tian commented that he appreciates the teaching philosophy and academic achievements of Shenzhen Middle School, which inspired all the teachers and students a lot.
In his lecture, Professor tian emphasized the importance of math by citing the example of Huawei, a company that invests a lot in math and algorithm and underscoring that math is one of the core strengths of a country.
In many people's opinions, math is boring, professor Tian commented. However, if we have a closer look at math, we can find its beauty of rigorous logic. In math, we can find intimate links even between seemingly completely different concepts.
In the last part of his lecture, professor Tian shared some anecdotes among him and other mathematicians. Professor Tian said that he really enjoys learning and discussing math with his peers.
A seed of math must have been sowed in students' heart by professor Tian. Hope students from Shenzhen Middle School can explore more about math and learn to appreciate not only the beauty of math, but also science in general.
